including those who may be physically challenged, closer to nature.

Montgomery County Master Gardeners
Local organic farmer and master gardener to speak at Master Gardeners meeting Friday Gladheart, master gardener and organic farmer will talk about "Garden Myths...from Epsom salts to wood ash and vinegar - what works, what doesn't and why" at 11:00, on Wednesday, August 2 directly after our 10:00 meeting. Friday owns and operates an organic farm and teaching center with her partner near Story, AR. She also offers computer help and builds web sites in her spare time. Friday@WindnWood.com. Anyone interested in hearing about garden myths is encouraged to attend the program. If you have time, please join us at 9:30 A.M. for a meet and greet social prior to our regularly scheduled meeting which begins at 10:00 A.M. Programs on various topics are presented at the monthly meetings which are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Montgomery County Extension Office. The public is always invited to attend and benefit from these informative presentations. Also, you are welcome to attend the regular meeting, see and hear what we do. You might be interested in joining! The Montgomery County Extension Service Office can be contacted at 870-867-2311.

37th Annual Quartz, Quiltz, and Craftz Festival
The Quartz, Quiltz, & Craftz Festival (QQC) is three shows in one, a Gem & Mineral Show, a Quilt Show, and an Arts & Crafts Show. The event takes place annually on the second weekend in October at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Mount Ida, Arkansas - the "Quartz Crystal Capital of the World". This year, the 37th Annual QQC Festival takes place October 13th, 14th & 15th. Three buildings at the fairgrounds each feature one of the three shows with additional gem & mineral booths and food vendors outside. Admission is Free. Attendees can enter a free drawing for door prizes which will be announced periodically throughout the day and may purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win this year’s featured quilt. The QQC Festival also features two quartz crystal digging competitions, the "World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig" and the "K-6 Kids' Dig", providing opportunities for rockhounds of all ages to experience the joy of finding their own buried treasure!

30th Annual World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig
The World Championship Quartz Crystal Dig is a two-day amateur crystal digging competition for Adults and Young Miners (ages 17 and under). The event takes place Friday & Saturday, October 13th & 14th. Entrants can dig at their choice of two participating mines, Twin Creek Crystal Mine and Sweet Surrender Crystal Mine. Over the course of two days, diggers get keep all they find and submit their best point and cluster each day to compete for crystal adorned award plaques and $2100 in total prize money. Members of gem & mineral and rockhounding clubs can compete against rival clubs for bragging rights and a
chance to win a free entry to next year’s event!

Grade school aged children pay $1 dig in a tailings pile prepared by
Dixie Crystal Mining Co.  with crystals from their Twin Creek Crystal Mine
at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Awards and prizes for 1st & 2nd place in
K-3rd and 4th-6th divisions. Educational presentation by Sandra Chandler of the
Arkansas Geological Survey. Awards ceremony & Door Prizes.
